Passing Thoughts — Privacy Policy

Passing Thoughts is a voice-notes app for iPhone. This policy is short because the honest answer is short: Passing Thoughts does not collect, transmit, or share any data. Everything stays on your iPhone.

What we collect

Nothing. Passing Thoughts has no server, no account system, no analytics, no ads, no tracking, and no third-party software components. The app makes no network connections. Nothing you record, type, or do in the app is ever sent to us or to anyone else.

Where your data lives

• Your notes (transcripts, titles, tags, and the app’s AI-derived organization) are stored only on your device.
• Voice recordings are processed on your device and, by default, deleted once the transcript is safely saved — unless you turn on “Keep recordings after transcription” in Settings, in which case recordings stay on your device until you delete them, delete their notes, or turn the setting back off (which offers to delete the retained recordings right then). Audio is never transmitted anywhere.
• Transcription uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition. Your audio does not leave the device for transcription.
• AI features (titles, insights, questions and answers) run on Apple Intelligence, on-device. Your notes are never sent to a cloud AI service.
• Like most iOS apps, Passing Thoughts’s data is included in your device backups (iCloud or computer) according to your iOS backup settings. That is Apple’s system backup under your control — not us transmitting anything.

Permissions the app asks for

• Microphone — to record your voice notes.
• Speech recognition — to transcribe them, on-device.
• Reminders (optional) — only when you ask Passing Thoughts to create a reminder; it is written to your own Reminders app.
• Notifications (optional) — for reminders you opt into. Notification content is composed on-device.

Denying any permission simply disables that feature; nothing else changes.

Diagnostics

Passing Thoughts can produce a diagnostic export to help troubleshoot a problem. It is created only when you ask for it, and it goes only where you choose to send it via the iOS share sheet. Nothing is ever sent automatically.

Deleting your data

Delete any note in the app, or use Settings → “Delete All Local Data” to remove everything at once — notes, recordings, AI-derived data, logs, and pending or delivered reminder notifications — in a single step. You can also delete the app to remove everything it stored on the device. There is nothing to delete anywhere else, because nothing ever left your iPhone.

Children

Passing Thoughts is not directed at children. Since the app collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children either.

Changes to this policy

If Passing Thoughts ever changes what it does with data (for example, an optional feature that sends something at your request), this policy will be updated here before that version ships, and the app’s own privacy description will say the same thing.
